About Data Activation Layer

The Data Activation Layer (DAL) is an integration layer that activates real-time user insights across your content and digital delivery tools. It connects your CMS to classify content, track visitor behavior, and personalize experiences based on behavioral insights using Data & Insights to deliver smarter, more relevant experiences, at scale.

Whether you're tailoring homepage content, optimizing landing pages, or refining marketing journeys, DAL helps you act on what users care about, right when it matters.

Why Use DAL?

  • Real-time personalization: Deliver targeted content based on live behavioral signals, not just predefined rules.
  • Unified data fabric: Link CMS entries, external data, and personalization strategy in one consistent flow.
  • Omnichannel readiness: Power consistent personalization across all touchpoints: web, mobile, email, and more.
  • No-code scale: Integrate and activate audiences across environments without custom infrastructure.

How DAL Works?

Once configured, DAL integrates across the following products:

ProductPurpose
Contentstack CMSClassifies content and syncs entries with DAL
Lytics (Data & Insights)Collects behavior data and builds audience profiles
Contentstack PersonalizeSyncs all audiences from your Lytics account to your Personalize project
Contentstack LaunchDeploys the DAL JavaScript tag to your environment

The result? A real-time feedback loop; powering content strategy, decisions, and tailored experiences directly in the CMS.

What Can You Do With DAL?

  • Set up a DAL configuration from Org Admin in Contentstack
  • Deploy the tracking tag via Contentstack Launch or your preferred deployment method
  • Sync CMS entries and metadata to build topic-based content maps
  • Build and explore audiences based on real user behavior and insights
  • Push audiences into a Personalize project to trigger dynamic content delivery

Once your DAL is active, you can monitor visitor behavior, adjust content strategies, and launch hyper-targeted campaigns with full visibility into what’s working, and why.

What You Need Before Getting Started?

Before getting started with DAL, make sure you have:

  • Access to the Contentstack Organization as the Owner/Admin with DAL enabled (contact our support team to get this enabled for your organization)
  • A website or app where the DAL tag can be deployed (via Launch, Google Tag Manager, or directly in your code)
  • Lytics/DAL Dev Tools Chrome extension installed for your browser

Next Steps:

  1. Create a Data Activation Layer (DAL)
